All art is abstraction. Even photography and photo-realistic or representational painting and illustration, or sculpture, is such. This is because any depiction of an object regardless of its style or format is not the actual real object itself but only an impression captured in a moment of time and filtered through the artist's own vision and imagination, and remains at least one step removed from reality itself. For any depiction of a purely abstract image the artist is laying bare the product of whatever flight of imagination or instinct drove the creation of the particular piece, and which will mean different things to different people viewing the artwork.
The exhibition here displayed on this site, comprising fifty-odd pieces, explores the dichotomy of order and chaos, how one is an emergent property of the other, and how one threatens to overwhelm the other. The artist, Patrick Degan, invites you to explore each piece and how it connects to the imagination or emotions of you, the viewer. Enjoy.
